Richard (Rich) Van Allman is the Acting Regional Administrator for the FAA's Alaskan Region. He became a member of the ARO management team in January 2016 as the Deputy Regional Administrator, Alaskan Region. Mr. Van Allman joined the FAA as an airport certification safety inspector, Airports Division, where he inspected commercial airports in the Northwest Mountain Region for almost six years. Thereafter, he held various positions in the ATO, including Executive Assistant to the Service Center Director, Acting Administrative Services Group Manager, Acting Cost Estimating Team Manager, Business Case Management Team Manager, Manager of the NAS Planning and Integration Team (South), and Runway Safety Program Manager, Western Service Area.
Prior to the FAA, Mr. Van Allman served 24 years in numerous command and staff positions in the military. He entered the military to fly helicopters and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after serving as the Army Representative to the FAA NW Mountain and Alaskan Regions. He holds a commercial instrument pilot license.
Mr. Van Allman received his Bachelor of Science degree from Troy State University and a Master in Business Administration degree from Saint Martin's University. He is a 2017 graduate of the Federal Executive Institute, Leadership for a Democratic Society.
