To refresh the certification strategy AIR is ensuring appropriate support of standards activities, minimizing unnecessary involvement in the critical path, and implementing risk-based systems oversight.

- Accepted National Aerospace Standards (NAS) 9927: Basis for recognition of voluntary implementation of Safety Management System (SMS) (PDF)
- Deployed the Applicant Showing Memo on Standard Certification and ODA Projects
- Provides criterion for allowing Aircraft Certification Offices (ACOs) to exercise their discretionary function to determine the level of FAA or designee involvement necessary. Criterion is used to determine when applicants and their substantiating data are good candidates for "Applicant Showing Only."
- Risk-based approach applies to new or amended type certificate (TC), supplemental type certificate (STC), amended STC, or parts manufacturer approval (PMA) projects

- Published the Certificate Management Team (CMT) Collaboration Strategy (PDF), a collaborative international effort to establish a dialogue and promote common solutions and approaches to certification issues
- Released the EASA-FAA Validation Implementation Roadmap (VIR) (PDF), a risk-based approach to enhancing the acceptance of certificating authority approvals and findings of compliance without further technical review by the validating authority
