COSMO-Skymed 4 - Delta II

COSMO-Skymed 4 is the last in the constellation of four remote sensing/imaging Geosychronous class spacecraft, built by Thales Alenia Space Italia for the Italian government. COSMO is short for Constellation of Small Satellites for Mediterranean Basin Observation. SEE COSMO-Skymed 3 information. The purpose of the constellation is to take radar imagery of the Earth using a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) for defense, civil, and commercial purposes. The system will monitor the globe and will focus on the Mediterranean region in order to control national territory; monitor environmental disasters; monitor coastlines, seas and internal waters; monitor agricultural events such as harvests; and support cartography through high resolution imagery.
