WASHINGTON— The U.S Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) proposes an $84,700 civil penalty against Image Air of Southwest Florida for allegedly allowing an unqualified pilot to fly its aircraft.

The FAA alleges that between June and September 2014, the Bloomington, Ill.-based company allowed one of its pilots to fly on at least 16 revenue flights when he had not passed a required FAA competency check within the past 12 months for the category, class and type of aircraft he was operating.

Image Air has 30 days from receipt of the FAA’s enforcement letter to respond to the agency.
