FAA Statement: Delays at NYC Area Airports

Sunday, November 15, 2015
Air traffic operations in the New York metro area returned to normal around 11:30 pm Eastern time Saturday after repairs were made to a fiber-optic cable damaged earlier in the evening during a traffic accident. The outage interrupted air traffic radar service in the New York metro area, as well as high-speed telecommunications services for a number of other telephone company customers.

FAA technicians responded to the outage immediately and restored service in accordance with the agency's contingency plans. The agency is reviewing the incident and will work with its telecommunications providers to identify ways to prevent or minimize future outages.
