Environment and Energy

Environment and Energy uses a comprehensive five-pillar approach to overcome the environmental constraints facing aviation from noise, air quality, climate, energy, and water quality concerns. The approach is composed of:

  • Improved scientific knowledge and integrated modeling
  • Aircraft technology maturation
  • Sustainable alternative jet fuels
  • Air traffic management modernization and operational improvements
  • Policies, environmental standards, and market-based measures

National Airspace System environmental performance will be tracked using the NextGen Environmental Management System Framework to identify additional system improvements to achieve sustainable aviation growth.
