General Aviation ADS-B Rebate Program

The last of the ADS-B rebates have been reserved! Still looking for a rebate? Read more below on how you may still be able to reserve a rebate.

The ADS-B rebate flight validation MUST be flown in the ADS-B mandated airspace defined in 14 CFR 91.225 (above 10kft MSL in Class E or within the boundaries of Class B, Class C, or Mode C veil airspace) for 30 minutes. This type of flight is essential to validate that the new avionics were installed properly and are FAA rule compliant.

ADS-B Equip Now! Don't get left in the hangar - Learn more at faa.gov/go/equipadsbADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast) is a foundational NextGen technology that transforms aircraft surveillance with GPS-based precision. Aircraft owners should equip as soon as possible to capture the benefits of ADS-B and ensure they will continue to be able to fly in airspace described by the ADS-B rule when compliance with the rule is required by January 1, 2020.

In September 2016, the FAA began offering 20,000 rebates of $500 to owners of fixed-wing, single-engine piston aircraft based on their purchase of avionics that have received an ADS-B Technical Standard Order authorization and meet ADS-B Out rule requirements. The last of the rebates was reserved as of May 13, 2019. However, you may still apply for a rebate as expired and returned reservations become available. The rebate application will be available until October 11, 2019. Please check the website each Wednesday at 1 pm Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) to see if any rebates are available. Please follow the instructions below:

You need to click on Step 2 to get to the reservation page. Click on "Check to see if any rebates are available to reserve now." The only way to see the available rebates is to click on the link. Please make sure you clear your browsing history before you begin or use a different browser. We recommend you use a laptop/computer, not a cell phone or a tablet, for the application process. Getting to the application page does not guarantee you a reservation. The success of the application is based on the rebate completion time, and if you have a valid reservation you will receive a confirmation email.

Find out if you are eligible for a rebate:

Eligible aircraft: U.S.-registered, fixed-wing, single-engine piston aircraft first registered before January 1, 2016. Rebate is also limited to new ADS-B installations completed after October 12, 2018.

Eligible equipment: ADS-B Out avionics that have received an ADS-B Technical Standard Order authorization and meet ADS-B Out rule requirements (software upgrades of existing equipment are not eligible). Rebates are not available for aircraft already equipped or for which the FAA has paid or committed to upgrade.

Proof of equipage: Rebate reservations can only be made within 90 days of installation. Within 60 days of installation, aircraft must be flown in "rule airspace" as defined in 14 CFR 91.225 for a minimum of 30 minutes with at least 10 aggregate minutes of maneuvering (AC 20-165B contains flight maneuver recommendations).

Rebate Flight Validation Requirements: The ADS-B rebate flight validation MUST be flown in the ADS-B mandated airspace defined in 14 CFR 91.225 (above 10kft MSL in Class E or within the boundaries of Class B and Class C airspace) for 30 minutes. This type of flight is essential to validate that the new avionics were installed properly and are FAA rule compliant.

ADS-B Rebate Program Steps

Step 1

Select equipment for purchase; Ensure your aircraft registration information is up-to-date in the FAA Aircraft Registry; Discuss your plans with a certified installer to ensure it will work correctly. Once you schedule your appointment to install the TSO-certified avionics, you are ready to reserve your rebate.

When within 90 days of avionics installation, check back here on Wednesdays at 1pm ET and if any rebates remain, you can reserve your rebate and receive your Rebate Reservation Code. Check to see if any rebates are available to reserve now.

Step 3

Install the TSO-certified ADS-B avionics on your eligible aircraft.

Step 4

Fly per program rules within 60 days of installation to validate equipment performance; receive incentive code. The ADS-B rebate flight validation MUST be flown in the ADS-B mandated airspace defined in 14 CFR 91.225 (above 10kft MSL in Class E or within the boundaries of Class B and Class C airspace) for 30 minutes.
