New technologies are making general aviation safer and more efficient, reducing the sector's impact on the environment. Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast provides the FAA with precise satellite-enabled surveillance and gives pilots the ability to receive real-time traffic, graphical weather, and additional aeronautical information. More than 14,000 satellite-enabled navigation procedures give pilots flexibility for landings in poor weather. Another technology effort is aimed at improving the environment: In collaboration with industry, the FAA is developing a replacement fuel for leaded general aviation avgas.
