Special Air Traffic Procedure and Safety Program
- Designated Operational Airports
The special procedures outlined in this notice apply directly to operations at the following regional airports:- KDFW - Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Dallas/Fort Worth, TX
- KDAL - Dallas Love Field, Dallas, TX
- KAFW - Fort Worth Alliance Airport, Fort Worth, TX
- KFWS - Fort Worth Spinks Airport, Fort Worth, TX
- KADS - Addison Airport, Addison, TX
- KRBD - Dallas Executive Airport, Dallas, TX
- KGPM - Grand Prairie Municipal Airport, Grand Prairie, TX
- KGKY - Arlington Municipal Airport, Arlington, TX
- KHQZ - Mesquite Metro Airport, Mesquite, TX
- KNFW - NAS Fort Worth JRB/Carswell Field, Fort Worth, TX
- KTKI - McKinney National Airport, McKinney, TX
- KDTO - Denton Enterprise Airport, Denton, TX
- KFTW - Fort Worth Meacham International Airport, Fort Worth, TX
- Airport Field Constraints and Ramp Space
- All pilots and operators are strongly encouraged to contact their servicing Fixed-Base Operator (FBO) prior to departure to ensure availability for both overnight parking and passenger handling. FBO’s or local Airport Authorities may implement a PPR or other reservation program.
- For comprehensive local airfield requirements, operators must review specific airport NOTAMs and maintain contact with the preferred FBO or local Airport Authority.
- Many other surrounding airports, particularly those within a 60 NM radius of KDFW, project a substantial increase in operations; parking at these locations may become unavailable.
- These surrounding auxiliary fields may implement more stringent requirements for itinerant aircraft due to constrained ramp space and support resources.
- VFR Traffic Restrictions
- The 2026 FIFA World Cup Special Air Traffic Procedures apply fully to VFR air traffic.
- Due to high traffic saturation in the DFW Metroplex, VFR arrivals should anticipate lengthy delays during peak match windows.
- VFR departures operating out of the DFW Metroplex must not expect to obtain an airborne pickup of an IFR clearance within 200 NM of their point of departure.
- Local aviation activities, to include practice approaches, touch-and-goes, flight following services, and pilot training operations at Metroplex fields will be extremely limited or completely curtailed.
- Security Provisions
- Special security provisions will be enforced for this event, including Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs), mandatory two-way radio communication, and discrete transponder code requirements.
- Airspace access to specific airports within the lateral limits of the TFR may be restricted.
- TFR details are normally disseminated via FDC NOTAM three (3) to five (5) days prior to the designated match event.
- Once officially published, text and graphic depictions of the flight restrictions can be found online at: http://tfr.faa.gov.
- Traffic Management Initiatives (TMI)
- Traffic management initiatives will be utilized when regional arrival rates exceed localized airport acceptance capacity.
- Operators must prepare for potential airborne holding, routing changes, or Expect Departure Clearance Times (EDCTs) issued for all domestic IFR arrivals into the designated airports.
- To maintain system integrity and eliminate delays, no airborne IFR filing (airfiles) or airborne changes of destination will be accepted within 200 NM of the DFW Metroplex, except in a declared emergency situation.
- Duplicate flight plans utilizing the same time and call sign to multiple airport destinations are subject to immediate removal from the system.
Arrival Corner Management & Internal Routing
- System Coordination
To ensure an orderly flow into the DFW Metroplex during FIFA World Cup match events, Fort Worth ARTCC (ZFW) and Dallas/Fort Worth TRACON (D10) will utilize the following arrival corner management and routing procedures during periods of increased traffic demand.- IFR aircraft arriving into the Metroplex can expect to be routed via designated corner fixes during periods of increased traffic demand.
Table 2: Potential Arrival Gate Restrictions and Associated Reroute Corners
Primary Arrival Corner | Potential Restricted Destinations | Rerouted Via |
|---|---|---|
UKW (Northwest) | DAL, RBD, HQZ, LNC | BYP (Northeast) or JEN (Southwest) |
BYP (Northeast) | NFW, FWS, GKY, GPM | UKW (Northwest) or CQY (Southeast) |
