SPECIAL AIR TRAFFIC PROCEDURES
In anticipation of a large number of aircraft operating to and from the Austin area during the college football season, the following Special Air Traffic procedures will be used to enhance safety and minimize air traffic delays. These procedures will be in effect on UT home gamedays from September 5, 2026 until November 21, 2026.
Date | Time (CDT) | Opponent |
Saturday, September 5, 2026 | TBD | Texas State |

Saturday, September 19, 2026 | TBD | UTSA |
Saturday, October 17, 2026 | TBD | Florida |
Saturday, October 24, 2026 | TBD | Ole Miss |
Saturday, October 31, 2026 | TBD | Mississippi State |
Saturday, November 21, 2026 | TBD | Arkansas |
PRIOR PERMISSION REQUIRED (ppr) PROGRAM
NOTE: PPR may not be utilized on all gamedays, so please check NOTAMs or with applicable FBO in advance.
Due to the high volume of air traffic anticipated during UT Football gamedays, a Prior Permission Required (PPR) Program may be in effect for arrivals, including drop-and-go operations, to and from airports in the Austin area, between Saturday, September 5, 2026 and Saturday, November 21, 2026. The following flights are exempt from this program: law enforcement and public safety flights; and regularly scheduled air carriers, air taxi operations, medevac, and locally based operators.
Expect the following NOTAM to be published approximately 7 days in advance, when applicable:
PPR NOTAM example: AUS AD AP CLSD TO GA EXC PPR SIGNATURE 512-530-5451 OR ATLANTIC 512-382-8810 OR MILLION AIR 737-208-1400
Prior Permission Required (PPR) airports
ID | Airport |
KAUS | Austin Bergstrom International Airport |
Prior Permission Required (PPR) Program at KAUS applies to both VFR and IFR arrivals. Except for emergency situations, flights without an approved “Slot Reservation Confirmation Number,” flights that attempt to air-file, and airborne flights that request change of destination to program airport will not be accepted. Operators must include the assigned Prior Permission Required (PPR) number in the remarks section of their flight plan.
Many other airports within the Austin area are also projecting a substantial increase in operations on these game days.
IFR OPERATIONS
IFR arrivals should expect sequencing to a standard Instrument Approach Procedure or Straight-In Visual Approach. Do not cancel IFR in an attempt to obtain more expedited handling.
Austin Terminal Area airports not serviced by an ATCT/FCT, or aircraft cancelling IFR after hours, may contact Austin Approach Control at 512-369-7865.
VFR OPERATIONS
Due to the high volume of traffic in the Austin metropolitan area, VFR arrivals can expect lengthy delays during peak traffic periods. In addition, VFR departures from the Austin area should not expect to obtain an airborne pickup of IFR clearance within 50 NM of their point of departure.
VFR Overflights: When Transitioning AUS Airspace during peak traffic times be prepared to be routed around AUS core airspace.
North of CWK: Expect to overfly KGTU then vectors towards destination airport at appropriate VFR altitude
South of CWK: Expect to overfly KHYI then vectors towards destination airport at appropriate VFR altitude
Practice approaches, touch-and-goes, flight following services and pilot training operations at airports in the Austin Approach Control Airspace will be extremely limited and possibly prohibited during this period, due to the high volume of traffic associated with gameday traffic.
Class C airspace requirements apply. Contact Austin Approach Control a minimum of 10 NM from entering Class C airspace on the following frequencies below. Class C violators will be aggressively pursued.
SECURITY PROVISIONS
Special security provisions will be in effect for this event including (but not limited to) Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs), two-way communication, and discrete transponder requirements. Specific procedures contained in this notice may be revised. Access to some airports may be restricted. Pilots are encouraged to check NOTAMs frequently to verify they have the most current information.
TFR information is normally disseminated via FDC NOTAM 3 to 5 days prior to the event. Once published, text and graphic depictions of restrictions may be found on the following web site:Â http://tfr.faa.gov/tfr2/list.html.
Flight Planning
Be alert for a higher-than-normal number of aircraft operating in the Ausin Approach Control Airspace. Expect various aircraft types, including numerous banner tow, advertising, and law enforcement aircraft.
To minimize frequency congestion, keep transmissions to a minimum. Practice approaches, touch-and-go operations, training flights, and formation flights may be directed to remain clear of the area.
