SPECIAL AIR TRAFFIC PROCEDURES

Special air traffic procedures to manage increased traffic, enhance safety, and minimize delays are in effect for the following Auburn University home football games.

TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT

Traffic management initiatives may be required during peak traffic periods or periods of reduced airport capacity. Pilots should be prepared for potential reroutes, mile-in-trail or altitude restrictions, holding, ground delays, or ground stops. Plan to arrive early, if possible, to avoid delays, airspace congestion, and limited parking.

AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL TOWER

The Auburn University Regional Air Traffic Control Tower (AUO ATCT) will operate from 0800-1700 CDT, unless otherwise published via NOTAM.

AUO ATCT and Airport Communications

APPROACH CONTROL

Atlanta Approach will provide approach control service on frequencies 125.5 and 126.02 to ALL arriving IFR aircraft and radar advisories to VFR aircraft requesting additional service.

KAUO ARRIVALS

VFR Arrivals:

VFR aircraft MUST contact AUO ATCT at least 10 NM from KAUO for sequencing. Keep transmissions brief to reduce frequency congestion.

IFR Arrivals:

Expect a visual approach if weather conditions permit.

VFR/IFR PICKUP PROCEDURES

Unless an EMERGENCY situation exists, DO NOT expect to receive IFR pickup or air-filed flight plan clearance within 40 NM of KAUO.

FLIGHT PLANNING

Be alert for a higher-than-normal number of aircraft operating in the vicinity of the Auburn University Regional Airport. Expect various aircraft types, including numerous banner tow, law enforcement, and flyover aircraft.

Two-way radio communication is required. Requests for no-radio (NORDO) operations will not be approved. To minimize frequency congestion, keep transmissions to a minimum.

Overflight operations below 3,000 feet should avoid the AUO area by at least 10 NM. Aircraft operations other than arrivals or departures should not expect approval from AUO ATCT. Practice approaches, touch-and-go operations, training flights, and formation flights may be directed to remain clear of the area.

Pilots should file flight plans with a proposed departure time (P-Time) one hour prior to the intended time of departure to allow AUO ATCT to plan airport movement and ensure flight plan information is available when clearance is requested. Flight plans will not expire until four hours after the filed P-Time.

IMPORTANT! OBTAIN A COMPLETE WEATHER BRIEFING AND CHECK NOTAMS AND TRAFFIC ADVISORIES PRIOR TO DEPARTURE TO ENSURE YOU HAVE THE MOST CURRENT INFORMATION.
