ROA ASR-8 OUTAGE AND WEATHER DATA LOSS

ROANOKE APPROACH PARTIAL WEATHER DATA LOSS

SEPTEMBER 29-DECEMBER 2, 2026

The ROA Airport Surveillance Radar (ASR-8) will be out of service from September 29 through December 2, 2026.

1. Surveillance feeds from the Lynchburg Airport Surveillance Radar (ASR-9) and Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) should allow Roanoke Approach Control to provide normal air traffic separation services.
2. Aircraft not equipped with ADS-B Out that operate west of BCB below 6,000 feet MSL may receive limited or no radar services.
3. The Lynchburg ASR-9 will provide weather data and weather-related safety alerts only within 60 NM of the radar site. At and below 6,000 feet MSL, Roanoke Approach Control will not have that weather data or those alerts available in the portion of its airspace west of the 60 NM limit.
4. In each graphic, the yellow polygon outlines Roanoke Approach Control airspace, and the red-shaded area depicts where weather data and weather-related safety alerts will not be available at and below 6,000 feet MSL.
