AD 1.2 Rescue and Firefighting Service and Snow Plan

1.. Rescue and Firefighting Services

  1. CFR part 139, Certification of Airports, prescribes rules governing the certification and operation of airports in any State of the United States, the District of Columbia, or any territory or possession of the United States.
  2. CFR § 139.315, Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting: Index Determination is the methodology for determining a rescue and firefighting index for an airport or heliport. For additional information on the individual index requirements visit the following website at: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-14/chapter-I/subchapter-G/part-139/subpart-D/section-139.315.
  3. Adequate rescue and firefighting vehicles, equipment and personnel are provided at aerodromes available for international commercial air transport.
  4. Temporary interruptions to rescue and firefighting service, or nonavailability of such services, are made known by NOTAM.
  5. Aerodromes serving certain air carriers under 14 CFR part 139 are indicated by a CFR Index, which relates to the availability of crash, fire, and rescue equipment. (See TBL AD 1.2-1.)

2.. Snow Plan

  1. The United States does not publish individual airport/heliport snow plans in the AIP. Snow removal is a standard operation conducted by the aerodrome operators themselves. However, as determined by the Administrator, each certificate holder whose airport is located where snow and icing conditions occur must prepare, maintain, and carry out a snow and ice control plan in a manner authorized by the Administrator. General considerations for the snow and ice plan are found under 14 CFR § 139.313, Snow and Ice Control, found at: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-14/chapter-I/subchapter-G/part-139/subpart-D/section-139.313.
  2. Runway closure information and runway snow and ice conditions are disseminated via NOTAM.
