Safety Management Systems (SMS) for Airports

With the expected growth in air transportation, we will need to make greater efforts and adopt new measures to continue improving aviation safety. The use of Safety Management Systems (SMS) at airports can contribute to this effort by helping airports detect and correct safety problems before they result in aircraft accidents or incidents. We plan to introduce SMS to airports in several ways:

- SMS IDLE Training Unavailable from June 16 to July 16, 2013
From June 16 to July 16, 2013, the Office of Airports (ARP) online SMS courses (Course Number 30200994, Overview of Safety Management System,and Course Number 30201003, Safety Risk Management Panel Facilitation) available through IDLE will be offline for course maintenance. These courses are required for consultants providing facilitation services on ARP-led SRM panels (see Office of Airports SMS Desk Reference (PDF), Appendix F). Any courses that are partially completed on June 16 will need to be restarted from the begining once IDLE becomes available again. We expect both courses to be available on July 16, 2013.
