A New Era of Aviation: An AAM Webinar Series
The FAA is at the forefront of establishing an operational Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) ecosystem at one or more key sites in the United States soon. The FAA is working to safely and responsibly usher in this new era in aviation.
The aviation industry is experiencing growth in new and innovative aircraft design and operations. Many AAM operators intend to use existing infrastructure for initial operations, as well as new purpose-built infrastructure. As operators explore those options, questions arise as to what standards to use in the siting, design, and operation of AAM landing and take-off sites, more commonly referred to as vertiports, as well as the equipment and facilities needed to support those operations.

Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) is an exciting new development in aviation that is moving closer to reality, and that can leave a void in understanding roles and responsibilities around engagement. The FAA’s role is integrating AAM into the National Airspace System with the highest level of operational safety. FAA will initiate a conversation with industry, state/local government, and the public about their roles in AAM Community Engagement. This webinar will highlight the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders as communities consider AAM operations and will emphasize the FAA’s primary role in safely integrating AAM and controlling the airspace.

Wake refers to turbulence every aircraft generates that could disrupt aircraft flying behind it. The FAA’s data-driven, science-based wake assessments keep aircraft safely separated and passengers flying more comfortably. This webinar covered the FAA’s role in researching and evaluating the effects of wake vortices, why this effort is relevant for AAM aircraft, and the importance of understanding aircraft performance specifications for our analyses.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is at the forefront of establishing an operational advanced air mobility (AAM) ecosystem in the United States.
As the FAA safely ushers in this new era of aviation, the agency is collaborating with other federal agencies, industry, and organizations.
AUVSI and FAA Present
In partnership with the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), the FAA is hosting two free public webinars in January and March 2024. Register in advance to participate.
This session promises a deep dive into the integration of increasing autonomy in aircraft operations within our national airspace, exploring both the exciting opportunities and challenges this presents. Highlighting the collaborative efforts of the FAA, NASA, and industry, our panelists will discuss cutting-edge research to safely integrate autonomy in day-to-day operations. Ensuring aviation’s safety legacy in the next generation of aircraft is a top priority for the FAA. Dive into the future with the AAM Webinar Series, where the FAA can connect, share updates on crucial activities in this rapidly evolving field, and engage with stakeholders on innovative ideas in intercity air travel. The webinar will cover the opportunities and challenges of integrating operations with increasing levels of autonomy into our national airspace.
