Jeannie Shiffer

Jeannie ShifferJeannie Shiffer is the Deputy Assistant Administrator for Communications. She advises the agency on communications strategies to keep the public informed. She and her team manage media relations, FAA.gov, the agency's intranet site and social media and digital platforms including a blog and a podcast. Shiffer also leads the FAA's creative and multimedia services and corporate communications.

Prior to joining the FAA, Shiffer was the Associate Director for Communications at the U.S. Census Bureau, the largest statistical agency in the federal government. Shiffer and her team led the dissemination of data and information to the media, the public, businesses and members of Congress. Shiffer established a developer outreach program, launched a hackathon series, and directed live broadcasts of all Bureau public meetings. She also managed speechwriting and two Federal Advisory Committees for the Census Bureau.

She is the former Director of the Office of Governmental, International and Public Affairs at the U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration. She has also worked for a Member of Congress and for two governors.

Shiffer has taught communications courses in China, Slovenia and Romania as an expert on U.S. government and media relations. She has led social media seminars for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments; the Ohio Association of Election Officials; the International Association of Clerks, Recorders, Election Officials and Treasurers; and the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Shiffer holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Georgia College.
