Technical Discipline: Advanced Manufacturing and Materials
The Advanced Manufacturing and Materials discipline involves metallurgy, additive manufacturing processes, composites with polymer (thermoset and thermoplastic), ceramic or metal matrices, processes used for high temperature applications, and other advanced production techniques.
The Chief Scientific and Technical Advisor for this discipline works to identify and mitigate aerospace safety risks and evaluate the readiness of emerging technologies, vehicle types, and their desired material and manufacturing processes and resulting characteristics. The CSTA also serves as a key advisor to the FAA, other departments and agencies, the aerospace industry, professional societies, associations, academia, and international organizations.
Dr. Thomas Broderick is the FAA’s Chief Scientific and Technical Advisor for Advanced Manufacturing and Materials. Dr. Broderick can be contacted at thomas.f.broderick@faa.gov.
