Title and Subtitle: Neural control of the ciliary muscle
Report Date: March 1963
Authors: Melton CE
Abstract: The cat ciliary muscle was shown to respond to both parasympathetic and sympathetic nerve impulses in vitro. Sympathetic responses were directionally opposite to parasympathetic responses and are interpreted as active contractions of the radial muscle layer. Such contractions in the intact eye should result in accommodation of the eye for distant vision.
Key Words: ciliary muscle, cat, sympathetic, parasympathetic
