Title and Subtitle: Development of an intervention program to encourage shoulder harness use and aircraft retrofit in general aviation aircraft: Phases I and II, ADA290966

Report Date: January 1995

Authors: Parker, J.F. Jr., Christensen, D.G., Shepherd, W.T., and Gunn,W.J.

Abstract: This report describes a study of shoulder harness installation and use rates in general aviation aircraft. Observations were made at six geographically separate areas to determine estimates of current installation and use rates. An expert panel was employed to identify important factors that affect installation and use of shoulder harnesses in general aviation aircraft. Analyses are presented to explain reasons for shoulder harness installation and use rates. An educational program is proposed to influence pilots to install and/or use shoulder harnesses in their general aviation aircraft.
