Application Submission

To request authorization to test for an inspection authorization (IA), or to renew an IA currently held, you must submit this form to your local Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) or International Flight Standards Office (IFO) who will review and process your application.

Additionally, the FSDO or IFO can answer general inquiries concerning the use of this form and provide additional information on obtaining mechanic, parachute rigger, and repairman certificates or ratings.

  • The preferred method for submitting an IA renewal application is through the Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application (IACRA). IACRA can be accessed here: https//iacra.faa.gov.
  • To report a change in your name, nationality, citizenship, or gender, you must complete an application form applicable to the certificate being changed (e.g., FAA Form 8610-2 for a mechanic certificate).
  • The applicable Title 14 CFR regulations for obtaining a mechanic certificate include part 65, Subpart A-General, Subpart D-Mechanics. The specific regulations applicable to an IA include § 65.91 through § 65.95.
