This AC was prepared by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Flight Standards Service (FS) to provide information to prospective Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanics and other aviation maintenance professionals interested in a career in aviation maintenance. It contains general information on the requirements to become a certificated or noncertificated aviation maintenance professional. This AC supports regulatory requirements in Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR) part 65.

The contents of this document do not have the force and effect of law and are not meant to bind the public in any way, and the document is intended only to provide information to the public regarding existing requirements under the law or agency policies.
