Order purpose statement

The purpose of this order is to establish a Thermal Stress Prevention Program (TSPP) to protect Aviation Safety (AVS) employees from exposure to heat and cold stress. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) does not have a specific standard for heat and cold stress but protects workers under Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act of 1970, referred to as the General Duty Clause. This clause requires employers to furnish employment and a place of employment which are “free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees."
