Order purpose statement
This order establishes Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) policies, procedures, responsibilities, and implementation guidelines for new and existing underground storage tanks (UST) containing any substance defined in section 101(14) of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) of 1980 ( except for those listed as hazardous wastes under subtitle C ofRCRA) and refined and waste petroleum and byproducts as regulated by "The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)" of 1976 (52 U.S.C. §6901 et seq.), as amended by "The Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments of 1984" (Public Law 98-616) and other acts and as implemented by the "Underground Storage Tanks; Technical Requirements and State Program Approval; Final Rules regulation, 40 CPR Parts 280 and 281." This order also establishes FAA policies, procedures, responsibilities, and implementation guidelines for aboveground storage tanks (AST).
