- Order purpose statement
This order provides guidance to personnel engaged in the siting of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Distance Measuring Equipment (DME). This order also provides guidance to FAA personnel responsible for protecting and mitigating possible adverse effects on the DME Signal-in-Space (SIS) from proposed construction around the DME facility.
This order provides guidelines that are used in conjunction with a thorough understanding of DME facility operations to arrive at the optimum facility location. The guidelines and criteria in this order are designed to be applicable to all installations, but are not required to be applied retroactively to existing installations. Application of these guidelines may be used to reduce the real estate requirements for certain existing installations. Deviations from these criteria may be permitted provided the results of a site-specific analysis indicate that operationally acceptable performance will be achieved with such deviations in place.- Content
