SMS for Airports

The use of Safety Management Systems (SMS) at airports can contribute to our effort to adopt new measures to continue improving aviation safety by helping airports detect and correct safety problems before they result in aircraft accidents or incidents.

The Office of Airports (ARP) is taking a two front approach to SMS — an internal effort to integrate the components and elements of SMS within the ARP organization, and an external effort to integrate SMS into our airport certification process under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 139.
