Designees

National Information

Designees are individuals and organizations in the aviation industry authorized to conduct examinations, perform tests, and issue approvals and certificates on behalf of the FAA.

Production Certificates

A production certificate is an approval (document) to manufacture duplicate products under an FAA-approved type design (e.g., type certificate or supplemental type certificate). The holder of a production certificate may obtain an airworthiness certificate for aircraft produced under the production certificate without further showing. To obtain one, the production application and approval process must be followed.

Request to Withhold Aircraft Ownership Data

The FAA is establishing a process that allows private aircraft owners to request that their personal data (e.g. name and address) be withheld from public dissemination, in compliance with 49 U.S.C. § 44114(b).

Training for Approach Lighting Systems (ALS)

Effective July 31, 2025:

Non-federally employed technicians must complete training and exams for the type of ALS they maintain.

Failure to meet the deadline will result in the FAA NOTAMing out of service the systems you maintain. The NOTAMs will remain in place until you complete the training / exam, and the associated hands-on performance exam.

Technical Standard Orders (TSO)

A TSO is a minimum performance standard, defined by the Federal Aviation Administration, used to evaluate an article. An article can be a material, part, component, process, or appliance (see Title 14, Code of Federal Regulations, 21.1(b)(2)). Each TSO covers a certain type of article. When authorized to manufacture an article to a TSO standard, this is referred to as a TSO Authorization (TSOA). Receiving a TSO Authorization is both a design and production approval.
