En Route System Engineering

The En Route Integration and Interoperability Facility (EIIF) employs subject matter experts who are knowledgeable of the FAA En Route infrastructure. This knowledge serves as the basis for the EIIF role in supporting proof-of-concept and exploratory research and development activities pursued by the En Route and Oceanic Service Unit or any independent organization.

Network Engineering

The EIIF Network Infrastructure represents a comprehensive, integrated, and secure Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol-based NAS en route network environment. Originally developed to support Host and Oceanic Computer Systems Replacement proofs-of-concept, the EIIF network capability has now migrated to provide the core EIIF networking infrastructure.

The EIIF networking infrastructure is centrally managed and EIIF resources are monitored and controlled from the EIIF Network maintenance workstation using both Commercial Off The Shelf products and EIIF developed capabilities.

Network engineering services are also provided by EIIF staff, particularly for customers with systems that require NAS connectivity using standard networking techniques.

Application/Software Development Environments

The EIIF provides a comprehensive software application development environment to perform En Route and Oceanic Service Unit sponsored research and development. The environment includes cross-platform software development environments with multiple high-level language compilers, graphical user interface builders, hardware fabrication capabilities, and a staging area for application injection into the EIIF operational NAS environment.
