Shane Pengelly is the Acting Air Traffic Safety Operations Oversight Division Director for the Air Traffic Safety Oversight Service (AOV), responsible for leading and executing oversight activities within the Air Traffic Organization. He leads continued operational safety in the National Airspace System by monitoring air traffic services delivery in the United States using a systems safety approach. Shane also oversees monitoring Safety Management System performance in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization standards and recommended practices.

Shane has over 15 years of extensive oversight experience in both Air Carrier and General Aviation operations. Prior to his role in AOV, he served in the Flight Standards Office of Safety Standards, Air Transportation Division, Operations Group. In this capacity, Shane was instrumental in formulating regulations and policy recommendations that govern the operational facets of air carriers and large aircraft commercial operators for Regularly Scheduled Air Carrier (Part 121) and Charter Type Service (Part 135). Before joining the Federal Aviation Administration, Shane distinguished himself as a Captain and Check Airman with Piedmont Airlines. He possesses type ratings in the DHC-8, DC-9, and B-747-400 aircraft, underscoring his comprehensive expertise and proficiency in aviation. Shane started his FAA career as a General Aviation Safety Inspector, and from there took on many roles, including Air Carrier Safety Inspector, Air Crew Program Manager, Assistant Principal Operations Inspector, Principal Operations Inspector, Front Line Manager, Section Manager, and Branch Manager.
