Module 6: Final Airport Tour
Grades 7-12
This is your opportunity to showcase everything you’ve built and learned throughout the Airport Design Challenge. In this module, you will create a short virtual tour of your Minecraft airport for the judges to review.
We recommend spending about one week on this module.
After weeks of learning, planning, and building, you are ready to present your airport.
You will create a brief virtual tour of your airport for a panel of judges. You may either record your screen directly or capture screenshots and compile them into a narrated slide presentation. Your project must meet the following requirements:
- The final project must be a video presentation of your airport.
- The video must be no longer than five (5) minutes.
- Students should narrate the video and explain:
- What you learned during the challenge
- What makes your airport unique
- What innovations or future improvements you added
- What you enjoyed most about the Airport Design Challenge
Top-scoring teams in each category will be recognized during a virtual awards ceremony. Review the scoring rubric before recording your tour to understand how projects will be evaluated.
Airport Design Challenge Rubric
| Score Range | Technical Accuracy | Creativity | Innovation | Final Presentation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0-5 | Completely inaccurate dimensions or scale. Missing major elements. | Terrain is flat and does not reflect the environment of the students’ home. Airport components show minimal creative effort. | No innovative technology/ concepts provided on the airport. | Presentation fails to demonstrate any of the airport’s functions, size, history, etc. |
| 6-10 | Some items are dimensionally correct or to scale. Missing minor elements. | Terrain is present but generic. Airport components show some design and creativity in both design and decoration. | Some innovative technology/ concepts included on the airport; not easily identifiable | 5 minutes long (+/- 3 minutes), little or no narration/subtitles, minimal view of airport components. |
| 11-15 | Most items are dimensionally correct and to scale. All required elements are present. | Terrain accurately reflects the students’ home environment. Airport components are easily identifiable. | Some innovative technology/ concepts included on the airport may not fit into the airport layout and function. | 5 minutes long (+/- 2 minutes), provides narration or subtitles, shows more than 50% of the airport but may not describe factors like operation, history, and functions of airport components. |
| 16-20 | All items are present, dimensionally correct and to scale. | Terrain and all airport components reflect a high level of creativity and attention to detail. | Innovative technology/ concepts are appropriately used across the airport and are very apparent. | 5 minutes long (+/- 1 minute), is narrated, creative, and adequately provides the viewer with a full range perspective of the airport. |
Your airport does not need to be 100 percent complete in order to submit a final project. Submit what you have completed so the judges can review your work and progress.
All students who submit a final project will receive a certificate and recognition for participating in the Airport Design Challenge.
Download the Putting It All Together Workbook and complete the Airport Knowledge Post-Test. Take a moment to reflect on everything you have learned throughout the challenge.
Before recording, plan your video tour:
- Decide who will narrate the video.
- Identify the key features you want to highlight.
- Make any final adjustments to your airport model.
- Practice your timing so your video stays within the five-minute limit.
There are many tools available for recording your screen and voice. You may use the software that works best for you.
Your final video will be uploaded to YouTube so it can be reviewed by the judging team. Make sure your video meets all project requirements and follows any posting or privacy guidance provided by your teacher or parent/guardian.
