WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao announced today that the Trump Administration will award more than $1.2 billion in airport safety and infrastructure grants through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to 405 airports in 50 states and six U.S. territories.

“This $1.2 billion federal investment will improve our nation’s airport infrastructure, enhance safety, and strengthen growth in local communities, which is especially important as the economy recovers from COVID-19,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao. 

The Department is awarding federal grants to the following airports in the State of Minnesota:

• $258,927 to Austin Municipal Airport to acquire easement for approaches and rebuild perimeter fencing.
• $506,827 to Dodge Center Airport to rebuild a taxilane.
• $1,225,371 to Duluth International Airport to buy snow removal equipment, expand an apron and seal airport surfaces.
• $1,203,710 to Ely Municipal Airport to rehabilitate a taxiway.
• $4,150,662 to Grand Rapids/Itasca County Airport to rehabilitate a runway.
• $400,000 to Jackson Airport to rehabilitate a taxilane.
• $226,251 to Le Sueur Municipal to purchase land.
• $4,273,220 to Mankato Regional Airport to build a taxiway, install signage, rehabilitate a runway and rehabilitate a taxiway.
• $2,461,178 to Morris Municipal-Charlie Schmidt Field to conduct an environmental assessment and extend a runway.
• $418,565 to New Ulm Municipal Airport to rebuild a taxiway.
• $9,225,144 to Rochester International Airport to buy aircraft rescue and firefighting equipment, conduct airport-related environmental studies, rebuild a runway and update the airport Master Plan.
• $59,350 to Rush City Regional Airport to seal airport surface joints.
• $826,686 to Rushford Municipal-Robert W. Bunke Field to rebuild an airport lighting vault, seal apron pavement surfaces, seal runway surfaces and seal taxilane surfaces.
• $1,105,071 to the State of Minnesota to update the state’s system plan study.
• $793,601 to Thief River Falls Regional Airport to buy aircraft rescue and firefighting equipment, including a vehicle.
• $506,361 to Tower Municipal Airport to build a snow removal equipment building.

“The 434 AIP grants will fund critical airport infrastructure projects around the country,” said FAA Administrator Stephen M. Dickson.

Since January 2017, the Trump Administration delivered $13.5 billion to America’s airports to improve infrastructure and safety. In 2020, the Administration delivered $10 billion in economic assistance to America’s airports during the COVID-19 public health emergency.
