Peter Brady

Pete Brady is the Acting Director for the Air Traffic Safety Standards Oversight Division (AOV-100). The division leads policy oversight of ATO safety standards by reviewing and approving national policy changes to policy standards, ATO’s Safety Management System (SMS) aligned with the International Civil Aviation Organization, and Safety Risk Management mitigation strategies for applicable procedures and future systems. Additionally, he provides safety oversight of aeronautical information products and services.

Professional Knowledge & Experience

Pete has an aviation background that spans over two decades as an airline pilot, instructor, check pilot, in airline leadership, and most recently in AOV as a Senior Advisor. He was asked to join AOV in 2022 in recognition of his oversight leadership experience. Pete continued learning the ATO operations and AOV processes to support AOV’s evolution in effective safety oversight. This resulted in leading significant enhancements to oversight processes including developing an AOV Safety Assurance System module, which will provide an enterprise-level oversight tool for AOV, alongside Aviation Safety Oversight organizations and offices. Pete has over 9,500 hours flying with regional and major airlines, operating both domestically and internationally in aircraft ranging from the Beech 18 to the Lockheed L-1011. His diverse FAA career began in 2010 with positions in General Aviation Safety Assurance and Air Carrier Safety Assurance. Pete quickly found opportunities to bring his industry work and experience to support oversight and evolutions in training and qualification, safety management systems, and voluntary safety programs. He served in several key positions in the Alaska Airlines Certificate Management Office and influenced transforming airline oversight to model integrated oversight principles. Pete’s  last job in the airline industry was as the Supervisory Principal Operations Inspector for Alaska Airlines, where he led the operations unit to successfully assure Alaska Airlines’ safety and compliance through a merger, pandemic, and re-certifying the Boeing 737 Max aircraft. His strengths are leading a team to coalesce around a vision, to empower a diverse group to achieve results, and to pioneer leading work to facilitate a model safety culture within the widest safety margins possible in the operation.
