Lessons Learned

Applying lessons from the past has improved aviation safety worldwide. The FAA aims to equip today’s safety practitioners with key knowledge in order to improve aviation safety. Learn more about lessons learned from selected large transport airplane, small airplane, and rotorcraft accidents.

WINGS - Pilot Proficiency Program

The objective of the WINGS Program is to address the primary accidentWINGS pilot proficiency program pin causal factors that continue to plague the general aviation community. We hope to reduce the number of accidents we see each year for the same causes.

The WINGS - Pilot Proficiency Program is based on the premise that pilots who maintain currency and proficiency in the basics of flight will enjoy a safer and more stress-free flying experience.

From the Flight Deck

FAA's From the Flight Deck video series provides pilots with actual runway approach and airport taxiway footage captured with aircraft mounted cameras, combined with diagrams and visual graphics to clearly identify hot spots and other safety-sensitive items.

  • From the Flight Deck LIVE: The FAA held a workshop for General Aviation pilots to help prepare for winter weather and how to operate safely in changing weather conditions. The event covered tips for preflight, en route and post-flight actions and information for General Aviation (GA) pilots during cooler months.
