Andrew Mueller is the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Deputy Executive Director of the Air Traffic Safety Oversight Service (AOV), responsible for directing independent, risk-based, data-driven safety oversight of air navigation services. He leads more than 130 AOV employees who provide safety oversight of Air Navigation Service Providers operating in the United States.
Mr. Mueller joined the FAA after a distinguished military career in the United States Air Force. He led the Air Force Safety Center, commanded the sole multi-national flying organization in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and commanded an Air Force Technical Training Wing. The wing provided qualification training in a variety of areas including air traffic control and airfield management. In addition, Mr. Mueller served on the staff of United States Pacific Command and was the deputy commander of a NATO Combined Air Operations Center. He earned a Master Air Battle Manager Rating and has over 4,000 hours flying on the E-3 Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft.
Mr. Mueller holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the United States Air Force Academy, a Master of Aviation Sciences degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and master’s degrees in national security and strategic studies, airpower art and science, and national security strategy. He is a lifetime member of the Air Force Association and is a National Security Fellow, Seminar XXI, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
