Enterprise Information Display System (E-IDS)
The Enterprise Information Display System (E-IDS) is an enterprise-level platform to be deployed to operational control positions at more than 400 facilities across all air traffic control domains. Once installed, E-IDS will provide operationally essential information for controlling aircraft.
E-IDS will replace five legacy Information Display Systems (IDS) that are operationally used in FAA facilities:
- Information Display System 4 (IDS-4)
- Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) Controller Equipment Information Display System (ACE-IDS)
- NAS Information Display System (NIDS)
- En Route Information Display System (ERIDS)
- Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) Auxiliary Information Display (AAID)
E-IDS will address legacy IDS technical end-of-life issues and two Air Traffic Organization (ATO) Top 5 Safety Issues: Pilot Report (PIREP) Capabilities and Timely Distribution of Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) Information.
Additional key benefits of E-IDS include:
- Enabling National Airspace System (NAS)-wide information exchange among all users and with other Enterprise Services
- Utilizing an Enterprise Information Management (EIM) platform to manage local and national static information
- Streamlining deployment and delivery of new capabilities
- Enhancing collaborative maintenance among FAA Technical Operations personnel
- Integrating E-IDS with System Wide Information Management (SWIM) infrastructure and SWIM-enabled information services
- Deploying data administration capabilities on the mission support domain to facilitate configuration of key operational sites in a timely manner
E-IDS is a program of the FAA Program Management Organization (PMO). Within the PMO, the Air Traffic Systems (ATS) Directorate is responsible for systems that support air traffic operations today, as well as for developing new, modernized surveillance and automation tools.
