Community Engagement — Harrisburg, PA
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will modify the airspace over Harrisburg International Airport (MDT) beginning on July 11, 2024. On this date the existing Harrisburg Class D Airspace and the Harrisburg Terminal Radar Service Area (TRSA) will end, and Harrisburg Class C Airspace will begin.
The change expands the airspace where air traffic controllers track flights and communicate with pilots in the vicinity of Harrisburg International Airport (MDT). It increases safety by ensuring that all flights, including aircraft operating on Visual Flight Rules (VFR) within the proposed Class C airspace area, are in direct communications with air traffic control.
The agency held a virtual informal airspace meeting for the proposal on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. You can watch that presentation here.
Pilot Education Meeting
The FAA will host a pilot/controller meeting to discuss the implementation of the new Class C service on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at Capital City Airport (CXY), Eagle Air Aviation, 106 Airport Road, New Cumberland PA, 17070.
At the meeting pilots will learn more about the airspace change. The FAA will describe the new airspace design and highlight the airspace features created by the agency to help pilots navigate safely. A representative of the local aviation community who participated in the committee that helped offer recommendations on the airspace change will also be present. A question and answers session will follow.
