Smart Skies™
Smart Skies, developed by the FAA and NASA, invites students to explore the exciting world of aviation and our National Airspace System. Through the program, you can test your skills as an Air Traffic Controller, discover how weather affects aviation, explore aviation careers that keep our airspace safe and efficient, and even try your hand at designing aircraft and airports.
Students apply science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills as they model, investigate, analyze, and resolve air traffic conflicts using hands-on experiments and interactive simulations.
For more than a decade, Smart Skies continues to be a valuable resource for educators in a variety of learning environments. Its air traffic control simulator website has welcomed over 250,000 student visits, and the program’s professional development activities have trained more than 3,000 educators.
