Q1.) Will the FAA Veterans Employment Program (VEP) Manager place me into a federal job?
A1.) No, the role of the VEP manager is to assist you by providing information about how to find and apply to FAA career opportunities, and answer the application questions that are applicable to veterans. You will need to begin gathering information and learn some of the skills needed for acquiring U.S. Federal Government employment.

Q3.) Who can I send my resume to at the FAA to place me in a job?
A3.) You will need to find a vacancy announcement that is aligned to your qualifications. Apply to that position via USAJobs, and attach your resume, if requested in the announcement.
Q4.) Who can tell me what job(s) I should apply for at the FAA?
A4.) You will have to do some independent research on your own, using the information resources on our website and other OPM resources. You can review your work history, training, education and other skills and compare them to the job qualifications listed in the vacancy announcement. You should always look at the “Area of Consideration” and make sure you’re eligible to apply for a certain position. Generally, you should apply to positions “Open to the Public” and those that say Veterans or have the veteran icon figure.
Q5.) Who can tell me if I qualify for the job that I’m interested in and/or have applied to?
A5.) The FAA HR Personnel Specialist listed in the vacancy announcement will determine qualifications and provide a list of well-qualified candidates to the hiring manager However, the HR Specialist typically does not follow up with candidates to provide status.

A7.) The FAA HR Personnel Specialist listed in the vacancy announcement is the only person that can answer that question.
Q8.) Do you have FAA vacancies open in specific geographical areas near me?
A8.) When you look at our job announcements on USAJOBS.gov, in the job search parameters you can type in a geographical location to see if there is a position located near you.
Q9.) Do you have career opportunities for Disabled Veterans 30% or more?
A9.) Yes, FAA hiring managers are encouraged to consider qualified veterans whom are DAV30% or more for all vacancy announcements listed as “Open to the Public”.
Q10.) As a veteran, do I need to apply on-line with USAJOBS.gov for a position at the FAA?
A10.) It is highly recommended that you apply directly to the vacancy announcement and follow all the instructions under “How to Apply.”
Training Questions
Q11.) What training programs does the FAA offer for veterans?
A11.) The FAA participates in two programs that offer opportunity to transitioning military personnel / veterans to gain work experience and training for future FAA jobs;
- New Sights Work Experience, sponsored by D.O.D. Service members are referred to FAA through the Department of Defense's (DOD) Operation Warfighter (OWF) Program. Participants must enroll with DOD-OWF.
- Vet-Link Cooperative Education and Veterans' Training programs, sponsored by the Department of Veteran Affairs. You can learn more about these programs through VA career counselors, and by enrolling within the Department of Veterans Affairs. This program is part of the Department of Veteran Affairs, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) Program. It is also commonly referred to as the Non-Paid Work Experience (NPWE) Program. While pursuing technical, vocational or academic degrees, veterans are placed in internships. The placement does not count against the agency's Full Time Equivalent (FTE) and the agency does not pay the veteran. VR&E pays the veteran monthly subsistence allowance while the veteran is participating in the program. During the placement, the veteran works towards gaining and/or strengthening particular skill sets.
Q12.) How do I enroll in these programs?
A12.) Participants must enroll directly with the sponsoring federal agency, i.e. Department of Defense's (DOD) Operation Warfighter (OWF) or Department of Veteran Affairs, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E)
Q13.) How do I participate in the FAA Veterans Training Program?
A13.) The FAA Veterans Training Program no longer exists.
Q14.) Does the FAA participate in the D.O.D. Skills Bridge Program?
A14.) No. The FAA does not participate in the D.O.D. Skills Bridge Program.
Q15.) Does the FAA participate in the U.S. Army Career Skills Program (CSP)?
A15.) No. The FAA does not participate in the U.S. Army Career Skills Program (CSP).
Q16.) Are there other internship programs that veterans can apply for in the FAA?
A16.) Generally, you should apply to positions “Open to the Public” and those that say Veterans or have the veteran icon figure. In addition, veterans can apply to FAA vacancy announcements named GATEWAYS announcements (internship, Recent Grads and the Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program. The FAA Gateways Program is administered very similarly to the OPM Pathways Program.

In the FAA, the OPM – Pathways Program is administered under the name FAA – GATEWAYS Program and follows the policies of OPM Pathways Program.
