Air Transportation Information Exchange Conference (ATIEC), Featuring AIXM, WXXM, and FIXM
The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in partnership with the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) will host the Air Transportation Information Exchange Conference on October 5-6, 2017 at EUROCONTROL headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.
The ATIEC 2017 theme will be "Information Exchange Specifications supporting the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Global Air Navigation Plan." Addressing specifically the technical implementers of System Wide Information Management (SWIM), the ATIEC 2017 will consider, in more technical detail than the ICAO Workshop, the various specifications available, or under development, to support SWIM.
Technical discussions on the current versions and planned developments to AIXM, Flight Information Exchange Model (FIXM), Weather Information Exchange Model ((I)WXXM), and the proposed ICAO ATM Information Reference Model (AIRM) are at the core of ATIEC 2017. This includes a general ICAO Workshop summary on day one of the ATIEC, ensuring that technical experts not attending the ICAO Workshop are fully informed on the ICAO planning and implementation aspects related to their activities.
Registration for the ATIEC 2017 is now open and will close on August 31, 2017. You can register at the EUROCONTROL website.
Click on the blue register button on the top right side of the screen. Once complete, submit the form and you will get a confirmation email. FAA employees should contact Deborah Cowell to be placed on a list for attendance to this conference (as space for employees is limited).
Information on prior ATIEC conferences can also be found on the AIXM site.
General AIXM Information
The AIXM, as originally developed by EUROCONTROL in coordination with FAA, is a conceptual and an exchange model for aeronautical information. It is designed to assist with the harmonization and electronic distribution of the Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP). AIXM is a model that describes the entities, and relationships for aeronautical features such as airports, runways, airspace, terminal procedures and other features. AIXM describes Extensible Markup Language (XML) messages and features used to exchange information about the aeronautical data. All coordination with EUROCONTROL and international partners on AIXM can be followed on the AIXM website.
Additional updates on the following topics can be found on the AIXM Website:
- Latest version of AIXM, plus information about previous versions
- Unified Modeling Language (UML) model
- Interoperability work
- Temporality document
- AIXM viewer (product from LUCIAD; originally developed for FAA)
- Coding guidelines
- And more...
