Ketchikan FSS Overview

Ketchikan FSS is a part-time facility open from 1515-0615Z and is located on the 5th floor of the terminal building on the Ketchikan Airport. Take the elevator, located on the east side of the terminal building, to the 4th floor and follow the signs up the stairs to the 5th floor. We provide preflight pilot briefings either face to face or by telephone at 907-225-9481 or over our numerous remote frequencies throughout southern Southeast Alaska.

FAR 93 subpart M designates Ketchikan as a special rule area requiring two-way radio communications with the FSS prior to operating in the surface area. Additionally, due to the confined airspace and volume of traffic, specific patterns have been developed for fixed wing aircraft and helicopters based on wind direction and place of landing/takeoff. The patterns in use are broadcast on our AFIS, frequency 134.45. Further details are available by clicking the link below.
