Engineering Designee Training Course Information (DER & ODA UM)
Initial Training
Designated Engineering Representatives:
A DER applicant must successfully complete initial training prior to submitting their application.
The DER Initial Training package consists of three courses:
- 27200135: Aircraft Certification for Engineering Designees (4.5 Hours)
- 27200025: Becoming A Designated Engineering Representative (2.5 Hours)
- 27200026: Roles and Responsibilities for AIR Engineering Designees (1.5 Hours)
ODA Engineering Unit Members (UMs):
ODA Engineering UMs must complete initial training prior to assignment.
The ODA Engineering Unit Member Initial Training package consists of two courses:
- 27200135: Aircraft Certification for Engineering Designees (4.5 Hours)
- 27200026: Roles and Responsibilities for AIR Engineering Designees (1.5 Hours)
Special Delegation for Major Repairs and/or Major Alterations
Due prior to receiving the special delegation.
- 27200027: Repairs and Alterations for AIR Engineering Designees (DERs and UMs)
ODA Administrators:
ODA Administrators are required to complete ODA Part I: Applicant Training plus the Part II courses applicable to the relevant ODA authorizations.

Engineering Designees authorized in Electrical Systems and Equipment must register for and complete course 2026 Recurrent Training for Electrical Engineering Designees (DERs and UMs). Acoustic:
The 2026 Recurrent Training for Acoustic Designees (DERs and UMs) will be held in-person in the Long Beach area. Currently the specific date and location are TBD. Once the logistics have been worked out, details on the location and date will be found in the new training module in the Designee Management System (DMS). Upon opening students who are listed in DMS as Acoustic and previous students will be notified by email.
Acoustic designees should first register for and complete course 27200200: 2026 Engineering Designee Seminar. Upon completion of the Engineering Designee Seminar students will be able to register for the in-person seminar when it is opened for registration.
Engineering Designees authorized in Structures must register for and complete course 2026 Recurrent Training for Structures Engineering Designees (DERs and UMs). Students are required to select one elective course when registering for their 2026 Recurrent Training Course. Software:
Periodically the Aircraft Certification Service (AIR) will hold a conference for designees authorized to make findings of compliance related to Software. In years that conference is held, those designees should attend that conference. Information related to future Software Conferences will be posted on the Aircraft Certification Software website. In years where a Software specific conference is not held, designees should complete the annual recurrent training corresponding to their individual authorization (Electrical Systems, Propulsion, etc.).
