The FAA's Office of NextGen leads in the planning and development of the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen). A transformative change in managing and operating how we fly, NextGen will reduce delays, save fuel and lower carbon emissions. This modernization effort integrates new and existing technologies, including satellite navigation and advanced digital communications. Airports and aircraft in the U.S. National Airspace System can connect to NextGen's innovative infrastructure to continually share information in real-time to improve air transportation's safety, speed, efficiency and environmental impact. The combined initiatives that encompass NextGen will result in a more enjoyable travel experience.
The Office of NextGen coordinates NextGen initiatives, programs, and policy development across the FAA's various lines of business and staff offices. The office also collaborates with other U.S. federal and state government agencies, the FAA's international partners and members of the aviation community to harmonize NextGen policies and procedures.
