How do I report a drone sighting?

If you witness a drone operation that appears dangerous or is being used to commit a crime please report it to your local law enforcement. This helps the FAA and your local law enforcement discourage dangerous, illegal activity involving drones. Unauthorized drone operators may be subject to stiff fines and criminal charges, including possible jail time.

The FAA does not regulate how people use drones to gather data on people or property, although we do recommend that people familiarize themselves with local and state laws on remote sensing technology, trespassing, and privacy.

If your sighting report involves a drone not following the FAA rules while flying within the National Airspace System you may reach out to your local flight standards district office where they are staffed for investigations and enforcement action.
