Stadiums and Sporting Events

Flying drones in and around stadiums is prohibited beginning one hour before and ending one hour after the scheduled time of any normal or post season event for any of the following:

  • Major League Baseball
  • National Football League
  • NCAA Division One Football
  • NASCAR Sprint Cup, Indy Car, and Champ Series races

The FAA has developed the Sporting Event Automated Monitoring System (SEAMS) to provide near real-time updates to the dates, locations and active times of locations in which the Stadium TFR applies to the flying public. The system relies on getting the most reliable and accurate data possible which is done by partnering directly with the applicable sporting leagues listed above. The FAA has established agreements with each of these leagues to receive all event schedules for their respective seasons, as well as live updates for each event including weather delays, overtime, pauses cancellations and much more.

Any events that fall under the Stadium TFR restrictions can be found on the publicly accessible SEAMS website. Users will be able to see events as far out as the leagues provide, typically the entire yearly season. For each event on the website, users can quickly and easily find the location, start/end time, and view events on a map.

Specifically, UAS operations are prohibited within a radius of three nautical miles of the stadium or venue. The FAA and SMA have developed a toolbox for stadium management and team representatives to use for media and outreach purposes.
