Santa Monica Settlement Agreement
In January 2017, the FAA and the City of Santa Monica, CA, reached a settlement to end long-standing litigation over the future of the Santa Monica Airport. The agreement requires the city to maintain continuous and stable operation of the airport until December 31, 2028, after which it has the right to close the airport. In the meantime, the city can reduce the length of the airport's single runway to 3,500 feet.
