Airport Capacity Profiles
The FAA has updated the airport capacity profiles as part of its ongoing effort to assess the capacity characteristics of the nation’s busiest airports. The capacity profiles replace the Airport Capacity Benchmark Report, first published in 2001 and revised in 2004. This 2014 update was necessitated by changes in aviation trends, new runways that have been added to the National Airspace System (NAS), and improved modeling techniques.
For the purposes of this technical report, capacity is the hourly throughput that an airport’s runways are able to sustain during periods of high demand. Capacity is represented as the range between the ATC Facility Reported Rate (i.e., called rates) and a model-estimated rate.
