Design and Installation Details for Airport Visual Aids
This AC provides guidance and recommendations on the installation of airport visual aids. See the Principal Changes paragraph for a list of major changes to the document since the last version.
Specification L-854, Radio Control Equipment
This AC contains the specifications for radio control equipment to be used for controlling airport lighting facilities.
Specification for Obstruction Lighting Equipment
This AC contains the FAA specification for obstruction lighting equipment. Effective 12 months after the date of this circular, only that equipment qualified per this specification will be listed in AC 150/5345-53, Airport Lighting Equipment Certification Program. No re-testing will be required for existing equipment where test standards are unchanged from the previous version of this AC.
Specification for Runway and Taxiway Light Fixtures
Contains FAA specifications for light fixtures to be used on airport runways and taxiways. See also--
Specification for Airport Light Bases, Transformer Housings, Junction Boxes, and Accessories
This advisory circular contains the specifications for airport light bases, transformer housings, junction boxes, accessories, elevated light fixture covers and stakes. It is not intended to be a compilation of currently available product designs. Instead, it provides the basic standard requirements for critical dimensions and performance requirements to which all manufacturers must demonstrate compliance.
Specification for Runway and Taxiway Signs
This AC contains the FAA specifications for unlighted and lighted signs to be used on taxiways and runways.
Specification for Constant Current Regulators and Regulator Monitors
Contains a specification for constant current regulators (CCR) and a monitor for use with airport lighting circuits.
Maintenance of Airport Visual Aid Facilities
This AC provides guidance and specifications for the Maintenance of airport Visual Aid Facilities.
Specification for Wind Cone Assemblies
This AC contains a specification for wind cone assemblies to be used to provide wind information to pilots. This revision revises the equipment qualification requirements to be furnished under the Federal grant assistance program for airports, applies photometric requirements for internally lighted wind cones to both Size 1 and Size 2 windsocks, and makes editorial changes.
Segmented Circle Airport Marker System
This AC provides standards for a system of airport marking consisting of certain pilot aids and traffic control devices.
Specification for L-824 Underground Electrical Cable for Airport Lighting Circuits
This AC provides specifications for L-824 underground electrical cable for airport lighting circuits.
Announcement of Availability of Airport-Related Research and Development Products
This AC explains how to obtain the latest airport-related research and development (R&D) products funded by the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) Airports Organization, particularly the FAA’s Airport Technology Research and Development Branch, the Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP), the Innovative Pavement Research Foundation (IPRF), and the Airfield Asphalt Pavement Technology Program (AAPTP).
Contains the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) standards and recommendations for the geometric layout and engineering design of runways, taxiways, aprons, and other facilities at civil airports. This substantial revision fully incorporates all previous changes to AC 150/5300-13 as well as new standards and technical requirements.
Airport Lighting Equipment Certification Program
This AC describes the Airport Lighting Equipment Certification Program (ALECP). It provides information on how an organization can get Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) acceptance as a third-party certification body (third-party certifier) and how manufacturers may get equipment qualified under the program. It includes a list of the equipments that are certified under the program. This AC does not impose requirements or mandate participation in the ALECP by any party. This revision clarifies the criteria that FAA will use to determine whether a certification body qualifies for participation and how equipment may be qualified.
Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) Systems
Contains the FAA standards for the Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) systems, which provides pilots with visual glideslope guidance during approach for landing.
Specification for L-890 Airport Lighting Control and Monitoring System (ALCMS)
Specifies the minimum requirements for an Airport Lighting Control and Monitoring System (ALCMS). The ALCMS simplifies the control and monitoring of lighted visual aids and enhances airport safety. The basic function of the system remains the same whether for a general aviation airport that supports only a few operations in a day or a large commercial airport which caters to hundreds of operations on any given day.
Specification for L-853, Runway and Taxiway Retroreflective Markers
Contains the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards for retroreflective markers for airport runways and taxiways. Version D changes Paragraph 184.108.40.206, Cylindrical Markers, to increase the marker diameter and surface area, and Paragraph 220.127.116.11, Mounting System, to clarify Type II marker mounting and tethering requirements.
Effective six months after the issue date of this AC, only equipment qualified per these specifications will be listed in AC 150/5345-53, Airport Lighting Equipment Certification Program.
Specification for Series to Series Isolation Transformers for Airport Lighting Systems
Contains the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) specifications for series to series isolation transformers for use in airport lighting systems.
Specification for L-821, Panels for the Control of Airport Lighting
Provides the specified manufacturing requirements for panels used for remote control of airport lighting and auxiliary systems.
Specification for Airport and Heliport Beacons
Contains equipment specifications for light beacons that are used to locate and identify civil airports, military airports, seaplane bases, and heliports.
Specification for Discharge-Type Flashing Light Equipment
Contains the specifications for discharge-type flashing light equipment to be used for runway end identification lights (REIL) and for an omni-directional approach lighting system (ODALS).
See also Notice to Manufacturers of Airport Lighting and Navigation Aid Equipment about AIP Buy American Requirement (12/19/2011). The FAA is requesting information to determine if waivers to this requirement are needed.
Standards for Airport Sign Systems
Contains standards for the siting and installation of signs on airport runways and taxiways, including taxiway ending markers, location signs, runway distance remaining signs, mandatory hold signs associated with POFZ and CAT II/III operations, and many others.
Specification for L-884, Power and Control Unit for Land and Hold Short Lighting Systems
Contains the FAA standards for power and control units for land and hold short lighting systems.
