Quality Management for Federally Funded Airport Construction Projects
This advisory circular (AC) provides information on the planning and oversight of construction projects at airports accomplished under the FAA's Airport Improvement Program (AIP). In addition to the previous version, this AC cancels:
Guidelines and Procedures for Maintenance of Airport Pavements
This AC provides guidelines and procedures for maintaining airport pavements.
Airport Pavement Management Program (PMP)
This AC discusses the Airport Pavement Management Program (PMP) concept, its essential components, and how it is used to make cost-effective decisions about pavement maintenance and rehabilitation (M&R).
Airfield Pavement Surface Evaluation and Rating Manuals
This AC provides limited guidance on understanding and rating the surface condition of flexible (asphalt) and rigid (concrete) airfield pavements. Appendices A and B of this AC include the Asphalt and Concrete Airfield Pavement Surface Evaluation and Rating Manuals (PASER Manuals). The FAA recommends the information and procedures contained in the manuals for use by airport staff and consultants, directly or in combination with additional testing and data collection, only when it is not possible to complete a more detailed pavement condition index (PCI) survey as part of a more comprehensive pavement maintenance management program.
Standardized Method of Reporting Airport Pavement Strength - PCN
This AC provides guidance for using the standardized International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) method, called the Aircraft Classification Number – Pavement Classification Number (ACN-PCN) method, to report airport runway, taxiway, and apron pavement strength. Includes instructions for using the COMFAA program to calculate ACN values to determine PCN.
Also provides guidance for reporting changes to airport data that is generally published on Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Form 5010, Airport Master Record, particularly those data elements associated with Gross Weight (Data Elements 35 through 38) and Pavement Classification Number (Data Element 39).
Access COMFAA and related Support Spreadsheet on our Airport Design Software page.
Standards for Airport Markings
This AC contains the FAA standards for markings used on airport runways, taxiways, and aprons.
Hot Mix Asphalt Paving Handbook
This AC provides general guidance on asphalt paving operations. The Hot-Mix Asphalt Paving Handbook 2000 (handbook) is in Appendix 1 of this AC. The handbook concentrates on field practices for asphalt paving, including plant operations, transportation of materials, surface preparation, laydown, compaction, and quality control processes.
Announcement of Availability of Airport-Related Research and Development Products
This AC explains how to obtain the latest airport-related research and development (R&D) products funded by the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) Airports Organization, particularly the FAA’s Airport Technology Research and Development Branch, the Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP), the Innovative Pavement Research Foundation (IPRF), and the Airfield Asphalt Pavement Technology Program (AAPTP).
Use of Nondestructive Testing in the Evaluation of Airport Pavements
Focuses on nondestructive testing (NDT) equipment that measures pavement surface deflections after applying a static or dynamic load to the pavement. It also briefly introduces other types of nondestructive measuring equipment to illustrate how supplementing NDT data with other test data may improve the quality and reliability of the pavement evaluation. This version updates Chapter 8, NDT-Based Evaluation and Design Updates, to reflect the requirements of the pavement design program FAARFIELD rather than the previous design program LEDFAA.
See also Airport Design Software.
Development of State Standards for Nonprimary Airports
Provides guidelines for the development of State standards for and the use of State highway specifications for pavement construction at nonprimary public-use airports as provided for in title 49 United States Code (USC), Sections 47105(c) and 47114(d)(5), respectively.
Airside Use of Heated Pavement Systems
Establishes minimum performance requirements for the design, construction, inspection, and maintenance of heated pavement systems for use in the Aircraft Operations Area (AOA).
Guidelines and Procedures for Measuring Airfield Pavement Roughness
Provides guidelines and procedures for measuring and evaluating runway roughness as identified by surface profile data of rigid and flexible airport pavements. Provides technical procedures to quantify surface irregularities and to determine how surface irregularities may affect specific categories of airplanes.
|150/5370-16||AAS-100||Rapid Construction of Rigid (Portland Cement Concrete) Airfield Pavements Provides guidance for the planning, coordination, management, design, testing, inspection, and execution of rapid construction of rigid (Portland Cement Concrete) airfield pavements. This AC focuses on rigid airfield pavement construction. The material contained herein also applies to other types of airfield improvements where rapid construction is identified as the preferred construction method.||09-28-2007|
Aircraft Arresting Systems
Contains FAA standards and recommendations for the installations of aircraft arresting systems on civil airports not owned or operated by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD). This AC does not describe Engineered Materials Arresting Systems (EMAS). For guidance on EMAS, see AC 150/5220-22, Engineered Materials Arresting Systems (EMAS) for Aircraft Overruns.
|150/5370-13A||AAS-100||Off-Peak Construction of Airport Pavements Using Hot-Mix Asphalt Provides guidance for the planning, coordination, management, design, testing, inspection, and execution of off-peak construction of airport pavements using hot-mix asphalt (HMA) paving materials. Also focuses on HMA airfield pavement construction and applies to other types of airfield improvements where off-peak construction is identified as the preferred delivery method.||09-29-2006|
Measurement, Construction, and Maintenance of Skid Resistant Airport Pavement Surfaces
Contains guidelines and procedures for the design and construction of skid-resistant pavement; pavement evaluation, without or with friction equipment; and maintenance of high skid-resistant pavements.
